• Living stipend: Chevening pays monthly, MEXT around 144,000 yen a month, DAAD 992 euro a month, Australia Awards fortnightly.
• Travel: Chevening covers return airfare, Australia Awards covers return travel, MEXT covers return. Fulbright varies by country.
• Insurance and visa: Chevening covers the visa fee itself; DAAD covers health, accident, and liability insurance.
• Never covered: family costs, and usually the application fees you paid to universities.
